SSSS Battle Report: Operation Tinderbox

Disclaimer: This battle report was recorded on July 18 2023 during Infinity: The Game ITS14.

Date: July 18 2023

Mission: The Armory

Points Level: 300

Note: Special changes have been made to this mission. The effect of CQB and Intel Spec Ops are in play.

On yet another horridly humid day (at least in my opinion), I find my way to the game store to play the game that currently hold my complete attention: Infinity. Today is (so far) the most concerning list I've made, cause I have no idea what I want to actually do with it, not to mention I'm facing off against a good buddy who's just returned from an ITS Tournament running his new army for now: Bakunin Nomads!

NOTE: I got very little photo evidence of this game. A lot of people around and some observing the game got me too distracted and I forgot to grab a lot of pictures.

Kosmoflot Army Code:

Upon review, I really did need to get my order pool's organized better, having Mirage 5 and Polaris teams together does really “order” starve the rest of the strike force. Overall, I was hoping for the SAS and Uxia to run forward and take out who/what they could, and have the Patcher/Rokots in a Haris team to stroll up into the Armory (spoiler alert, it didn't happen). I'll admit I absurdly misplaced my Unknown Ranger, as I realize I had him as an afterthought, focusing too much on breaching with the SAS without thinking about, ya know, using the UKR as a breacher as well.

My spec ops was an odd choice as well, as I had about 4 different versions of it in mind, but settled on (apparently) the first one after not saving a different one. Biggest thing on my mind was achievement hunting, as I have yet to get Spray n Pray for firing at someone with Mim -6.

At the end of the game/day, 0/10 would never run this list again for Armory, haha.

Bakunin Army Code:

So finally able to fight Mimetism -6, woo! Didn't come up as often as I thought it would've, but it was still a pain at times. Morlocks will prove to be pivotal during this game, along with that damn healer being without a doubt the MVP.

Pregame: Kosmoflot won with LT WIP roll off and I decided to keep deployment. Bakunin deploying and going first. Turrets are in place. I drew Mapping for my classified:

Requirements: Forward Observer of Hacker

Description: A Forward Observer or Hacker - In base contact with Scenery Building or a Scenery Item placed entirely inside the opponents deployment zone - must spend a short skill and succeed in a WIP Roll.

Deployment:

I have zero pictures of deployment. From my point of view:

Nomad Deployment (left to right) was a turret, camo token, sin eater on a catwalk, a reverend 4-man team in the center, Robin Hoom ahead of them, but outside the exclusion zone, an engineer, a remote with missiles and a moderator spec ops on the right. Morlocks scatter to the back center and right on the deployment zone line.

Kosmoflot deployment (left to right) was an Irmandinho (who rolled up a 20, so HMG) and a wardriver standing behind a building, with a warcor and defensive turret on top as ARO, prone camo token behind a truck, patcher/rokot team in the middle prone around a building, camo Tokens behind a truck, and then a bear behind a tree with the controller behind on stairs to a building. Duroc/Margot in reserve for later.

Turn 1: Nomads

All the Morlocks moved and threw smoke during their impetuous phase. The left camo token was a Zero who placed down a deployable repeater, Robin hood tossed a drop bear by the right side of the Armory, and then the center team rolled up, opened the Armour and went in to get settled, there was a failed attempt to open the panoply, with a WIP 14 check at that! I did lose my warcor and turret in turn 1 to the Cenobite.

Turn 1: Kosmoflot

Most depressing start to a game I've had. Tac Aware spent on Ranger, stood up, shot at the Cenobite, Ranger got hit instead (mix of low/high rolls loses to middling rolls), and didn't roll above a 5 against the HRL, so there he goes. Worst performance yet, but oh well. SAS gets revenge by scooting Forward, dropping camo, and killing off the Reverend Custodier Hacker (who I later learn is his LT getting me the assassin AND spray and pray achievements due to mim -6 and templates not caring.)

The following series of events saw the cenobite go down, Uxia get caught up in the mix, and the Patcher team move around to get closer to hold the Armory.

End of Round 1: Kosmoflot holds the Armory 27 to 25, woo!

Turn 2: Nomads

So although starting in Loss of LT, my opponent shows his stripes of playing game significantly longer than myself, and manages to knock an upsetting amount of my attack prices. Uxia, Patcher and Intel Rokot drop to various unconscious states thats to a chain rifle and a E/M mine, alongside the SAS. At least my Rokot LT is alive still! Scuffling of troopers and the remote cause me some concern for approaching the Armory on my right. New LT becomes the Sin Eater (mentioned post-game).

Turn 2: Kosmoflot

So I move the Polaris Team into group 1 from group 2, generate my order pool's and such, then bring in Mirage, cause I needed it. Managed to tuck on in the back right corner, Margot has a good line of sight around the backline, and Duroc has some orders to play with. First off I sent in the SAS, trying to mitigate some damage done to Mt assault group the turn before. I managed to both hit Robin Hook and a Morlock who moved into the room, wounding Robin, but not the morlock, bummer. Got chain rifled sadly and made the save with the unconcious SAS, but not the standing one. Oof. Used some orders on Duroc to move up and knock the missile remote unconscious. Wasn't able to sneak the room back.

End of Round 2: Nomads own the room.

Turn 3 Nomads:

Lots of healing this turn, Moira revived and opened a panoply, getting +4 ARM, making it very improbably to shake them off the room. Engineer moved up and didn't do much to my recollection.

Turn 3 Kosmoflot

My last turn was mainly a clearing attention: ge the bear up to get everyone out, to at least deny and maybe move my rokot LT in. That plan was stopped when a morlock smoked the damn door, and only having 2 orders left meaning intuitive attacks, I went for it because "achievements!" I failed, womp womp. Duroc was able to secure the HVT instead of the classified, and my Irmandinho was able to crawl prone close enough to deny the Zero the same on my HVT. Almost had the zondbot dodge its way into combat with the bearpode at the end though!

End of Game:

Nomads maintains dominance over the Armory turn 2 and 3, maintain at the end of the game, and pulled more toys from the boxes. Kosmoflot maintained dominance foe turn 1 and Secured the HVT. Final score 7-3 Nomads!

Was a fun game, lots of me asking about unit profiles since I haven't fought Bakunin before. Mim -6 is annoying, but not the worst thing out there. I should've dropped Mirage 5 for other options, something with more staying power that's a lot less order hungry. Was a fun game nonetheless, a definitely a learning moment for the sorts of shenanigans that Nomads can pull off that I have experienced ywt.

No story this time!
