Operation Bone-Rustler Part 4: Gamma Team: An Infinity N5 Battle Report
### ### ### The Mission ### ### ###
If this mission seems odd, it's because it is not an ITS Mission! Rather, we are playing the Master Access mission from the Operation Sandtrap book. The mission runs as below:
Main Objectives:
1. At the end of the game, have Reconfigured one Gate of an Outpost Module (1 Objective Point for each Reconfigured Gate)
2. At the end of the game, Control the Yamabushi (3 Objective Points)
3. Each player has 2 Classified Objectives (1 Objective Point for each)
There is an exclusion zone covering the central 24" of the board (12" on either side of the center line), preventing the usual Special Skills with either Airborne Deployment (AD) or Superior Deployment labels from deploying within this area.
There are gates one each of 5 central buildings, as annotated below; players need to spend a short skill on dedicated Specialists to properly reconfigure the gate.
Specialist troopers are defined as troopers with Hacker, Doctor, Engineer, Forward Observer, Paramedic, Chain of Command, or Specialist Operative. To note, the specialists cannot utilize repeaters or peripheral (Servant) models to accomplish this objective.
### ### ### The Lists ### ### ###
Tartary Army Corps
My thoughts for the list is to have a decent amount of mid-field presence with the camo. Vet Kazak and Frontoviks are a Veteran Haris, while the Line Kazak, Dozer, and Frontovik in Group 2 are a Kazak Core. The Veteran team will be able to move up and change the gates over in time as everyone else covers for them.
Shindenbutai
So, this list. Mechazoid was sorta expected, Connor does love using his TAGs/"Big Stompy Bois." The Hatamoto is expected as well for a Shindenbutai list, alongside the Nokizaru. Shizoku is a strong option, especially with the AP HMG.
The Hidden Deployment infiltrators is something I haven't had to deal with in a while, so we'll figure out how to address that later on.
### ### ### Pre-Game Rolls and Deployment ### ### ###
JSA wins the LT roll-off and keeps Initiative to go first. JSA deploys first. I spend a command token to remove 2 orders from Group 1 and to call in a Speedball. JSA spends a command token to call down a speedball as well.
Hatamoto and Senku are declared in a Core fireteam. Veteran Kazak and 2 Frontoviks in group 1 form a Veteran Haris fireteam. The Frontovik, Dozer, and Line Kazak in Group 2 for a Kazak Core Fireteam.

### ### ### Turn 1 ### ### ###
Turn 1 Shindenbutai
The Mechazoid advanced, go shot by the AP Sniper Frontovik and Vystrel, chipping off 2 of its 3 wounds. Hatamoto team advanced forward over a few orders, advancement stopped when a Strelok revealed and eliminated the Senku Paramedic with a T2 Marksmen rifle.

Strelok vs Senku |
Ninja Saito Togan appeared behind the Strelok, and killed him in melee. Saito Togan died in the next order trying to attack the Vystrel, only to be burned at the stake by a revealed Barsuk with Heavy Flamethrower.

Burn baby Burn! |
Mechazoid moves up, dodging shots, and takes up a position right by the Yamabushi. Shizoku moves up, to get a good line of sight on the field.
Turn 1 Tartary Army Corp
Speedball comes down, Vita-pack and Auto-repairs. Moved Tankhunter into group 1 for a CT.
In group 1, the Veteran team moves around, trading fire with the Nokizaru across the board. Nokizaru goes unconscious during the firefight over a few orders. Paramedic Frontovik tries to medikit the Barsuk, who fails his PH roll and dies. Veteran fireteam moves up and takes down the Mechazoid with AP HMG fire. The reposition around their structure with their final order.

Veteran Kazak guns down the Mechazoid |
In group 2, the fireteam moves up, Frontovik repositions and trades shots with the Shizoku, who takes a wound and drops prone. Dozer tosses an Armed Turret and drops prone on the stairs. Final ARO is revealing a prone Kurayami Ninja, just to get the order on the board for next turn after the fireteam moves.
### ### ### Turn 2 ### ### ###
Turn 2 Shindenbutai
6 orders, 2 lt. (Senku, Senku, Hatamoto, Ninja, Kurayami Ninja, and Shizoku); speedballs called down, Nano-shield and Overkill; both land where desired. Ninja reveals in camo and moves up towards the nearest gate, when he's discovered by the Frontovik sniper. Hatamoto drops the fireteam, grabs Nano-shield, moves up with LT orders, and after taking a wound in ARO from the sniper Frontovik, he finds his niche and stays there. Kurayami ninja crawls forward, eventually getting to the gate on my right flank.
Turn 2: Tartary Army Corp
Too many orders spent on the boarding shotgun minelayer Strelok on the left flank to go up to the Hatamoto and not execute him with a shotgun (Mimetism -3 and Nano-screen is a bitch). Hatamoto dodges into CC with him, no one else moves to trigger an ARO on him. Vet team moves around a little bit. Kuryer moves up a little to get better Line of Sight on the right flank.
Another armed turret goes down, and the Kazak fireteam readjusts to have a firing line if the Hatamoto lives.

### ### ### Turn 3 ### ### ###
Turn 3: Shindenbutai
Hatamoto does a short skill for a Classified and succeeds. Only to be shot and killed by the elevated Frontovik sniper; needs a 3 to hit and rolls and 9 and 3 with a special die, critting the Hatamoto and knocking him unconscious. Shizoku walks up, knocks the Line Kazak Paramedic unconscious before getting knocked down himself from the Frontovik sniper. Armed Turret goes to shoot, fails all shots from a -12 mod (17" away), and kills the Strelok (based on the rule), denying the Hatamoto the chance for Predator. Ninjas config gate, another tries to move forward, and dies to the Vet Kazak thanks to dice off by 1 point (need 13 WIP to Flash Pulse, rolls a 14; needs a 6 to save, rolls a 7). End of turn has 2 Senku and the Kurayami ninja left.
Turn 3: Tartary Army Corp
The Dozer and Frontovik sniper are moved into Group 1 for 2 command tokens. Vet team activates, Frontovik paramedic runs to the Line Kazak while rest oft he team pushes up. Paramedic tries and kills the Line Kazak with a medikit, awesome. Vet Kazak kills closest Senku to stop the shenanigans.
Engineer Frontovik reconfigures the closest gate to me; Paramedic Frontovik drops from the fireteam. Veteran Duo team moves up, Veteran Kazak does a WIP +3 roll to Hatamoto corpse, classified done; Senku fails an ARO shot. The Frontovik Engineer goes up to middle gate, and then proceeds to fail 3 consecutive WIP rolls, guess the number-pad is locked or something, probably sand.
Frontovik Engineer climbs up, and gets hit with a crit with the Kuriyami's light shotgun and goes unconscious. Vet Kazak hoses the final Senku in retribution.

### ### ### End of Game ### ### ###
JSA has completed:
Configure 2 Gates (2 VPs)
Completed a classified (1 VP)
TAK has completed:
Configure 1 Gate (1 VP)
Completed a classified (1 VP)
Shindenbutai takes the Victory
### ### ###
The firefight was as intense as ever, the Frontoviks identified a key researcher, hunkering down on the top of the central building. As he climbed up to "collect" him, a shot ran out and the solder toppled from the rooftop. A sudden mini-sandstorm whipped up debris and sand into the air from the far side of the central compound. Silhouettes looking like they're wearing lab-coats, some with weapons, scuttled from one of the research buildings into the rear hatch of a dropship sitting on the landing pad.
Thinking on his feet, Kraznitsky toggled his radio. The Pelican flight were notified of the fleeing civilian vessel, being reminded not to pursue.
The remaining opposing operators disappeared into the various buildings, locking them behind them, hiding like the dogs they were.
As the civilian ship began to exit the perimeter, there was an explosion. One of the air defense batteries on the section of the facility of Echo team seemed to have activated and opened-fire on the civilian craft. Echo team relayed that they didn't touch the Air Defense system. But the Pelican flight determine that their IFF wasn't broadcasting, so this was likely a proper response from the system; considering the Pelican flight were definitely using IFF to get into this zone.
"I don't know how this will be explained, that thing had researchers on it; or at least that's what they looked like." said Kraznitsky into the radio.
--- --- --- --- --- ---
Alpha and Charlie teams would radio in, they've quelled the resistance that Bravo encountered. Echo and Delta report no resistance remains in their sectors. One of the Gamma Team Pelican's lands on the landing pad, loosing a team of Wardrivers, sent in to handle the cyber attack needed to find out what they want for this facility. After some time, they're able to find something, but they're private about it.
The Pelican flight comes in to land at the facility, the wounded and dead are gathered and loaded onto them. The flight will take off fully loaded with troopers, along with various supplies taken from the facility; medical supplies, ammo, food, etc. Getting the weapon from the Mechazoid into the Pelican definitely needed the Ratnik frame to move.
--- --- --- --- --- ---
The trip back would be as uneventful as the trip out. The teams would debrief at Kaksin, then dismiss back to their respective Stanitsas', being transported back via Pelican.
For their efforts, Kaksin regional leadership authorized the deployment of a Vystrel element to Point Blue Ridge. They also received a barrel of some spirit from Dawn, guess the info the Wardrivers found made the Kaksin Brass happy.
The mission would get told to the various soldiers and locals within Point Blue-Ridge over the next few months. Gretizky would nearly demand to get to go on the next sortie, which Kraznitsky could do nothing more than laugh; and say maybe.

### ### ### Post-Game ### ### ###
We did note afterwards, that the Hatamoto's Nano-shield was not played properly, as we clearly missed out on the part that says it's ONE USE only. I'm disappointed in the Frontovik specialists though, not really, my dice rolls just sucked.
### ### ### Closing Thoughts ### ### ###
Im finishing up this edit nearly a month after the game was played. My thoughts are super scattered, but thankfully all the notes were added well earlier that my edit is taking place. This game would begin my personal "tracking" of our track record of games against Connor for N5, where I am now 0/1/0 with him.
I'm waiting for the Youtube channel so I can watch ! Nice BatRep!
ReplyDeleteIf I had the time to record and edit youtube videos, I'd consider it! Unfortunately, it's not in the cards for now.
