The Fight for February: An Infinity ITS event Wrap-up

If you've been following the blog for any modicum of time, you would know I most post blog-posts for battle reports for Infinity. Well, one aspect of Infinity I have not been able to indulge myself in has been the tournament system; the Infinity Tournament System (ITS) to be precise.

On February 1st, myself and two Infinity buddies (Connor and Ric) drove all the way up to Westminster Maryland for the first ITS for us this year, The Fight of February! The game store was one I haven't been to yet, but would soon see all the gloriously painted models that are on the shelfs at this store (that i took precisely zero pictures of). This is Bazooka Games, formerly known as Tables & Towers.

The gist for this event, is mainly that we have 3 game rounds, playing the following missions in order

Round 1: Battlegrounds Round 2: Firefight Round 3: Uplink Center

We will have to have crafted at most 2 lists to bring along to this event. Mine are listed in a little bit. Players will be able to determine the list they want to play at the start of each game after the important questions are asked; like "What's your name?", "What army are you playing?", and the all important "what's you blood type and social security number?"

All of these current ITS16 Part 2 missions can be found here.

Event turnout was a solid 17 , Had 8 game tables with a bye-player each round, I believe they were all volunteers, but I'm not sure as I thankfully wasn't approached for it. Below are the tables present for the event:

### ### ### My Lists and Thoughts ### ### ###

So I brought 2 lists of Ariadna (TAK). It's a mix of using models that I like and some stuff that's meant for the missions being played. It should be no surprise I brought TAK to this ITS, as it's been what I have been playing for the first month and a half of N5.

List code 1: gTEHdGFydGFyeRlXZXN0bWluc3RlciBXdW1ibGUgTGlzdCAxgSwCAQAKAYDqAQcAAoDqAQUAA4RnAZAsAASA%2FwEBAAWEZgEGAAaEZgEGAAeEbgGQVgAIhG4BkFMACYDnAQcACoDnAQYAAgADAYc2AQIAAoc1AQQAA4DwAQIA

List code 2: gTEHdGFydGFyeRlXZXN0bWtuc3RlciBXdW1ibGUgTGlzdCAygSwCAQEACgCDAAEEAACEZwGQLAAAgOoBAgAAgOoBBQAAhzUBBAAAhzUBAwAAgQkBAgAAhGYBBgAAhQQBkpkAAIRuAZBTAAIBAAUAhzQBAwAAgPABAgAAgPABAgAAhzYBAgAAhzQBAQA%3D

My main plan was list 1 for Battleground, list 2 for Firefight, and Uplink Center being either-or. Only thing i really wanted to use here was Colonel Voronin despite how well he telegraph being the LT, but I wanted bonuses bring him, so he can walk his dog around Westminster.

Both lists focused on a Ratnik Haris with 2x Veteran Kazaks as the assault piece and a Vystrel PAC for ARO defense. The Strelok Minelayer was gonna be a silly midfield speedbump. the Dynamos/112 on Bike were meant to be the prospective fast movers, sling smoke or mines and threaten zones or objectives.

The Tankhunters of list one are meant to be either backup gunfighter or backup LT via CoC.

Barsuks and Konduktors are just fill ins for orders. Irmandinhos as well, except for List 2 where it could be awfully useful for Firefight if I can get there. The one in List 1 is for the engineering bit for the Vystrel if things go sideways.

### ### ### Pre-Event Tomfoolery ### ### ###

The tomfoolery in question was mainly just taking in the store, the amount of space, models, etc. was amazing. This is also when Connor and I would end up setting up 2 tables, marked as Table 5 and Table 6 above. I particularly enjoyed table 6 with all the Comanche Outpost terrain, as we now call this "the floor is lava."

There was also some due time to be able to put faces to names that I've heard about before. I've heard some stories (good ones I promise, for what that's worth) of the likes of Billiam, MasterofMelee, and I believe Varamus. Do I remember the details of those stories? Highly unlikely. But did the names stand out when I heard the callouts occur, indeed they did.

### ### ### Into the Games ### ### ###

Game 1: Ariadna (TAK) vs Yu Jing (White Banner)

Played on: Table 3

My opponent's ITS name is Dead2fa11, and he rolled up to the game running White Banner, something I THINK I played against once during the last local league over a year and a half ago. I ended up choosing to go with List 2 here, mainly because I thought White Banner would end up bringing more Heavy Infantry/Hackable toys, which while there was more than what I would bring (I think), it never came up.

I ended up losing the LT rolloff, ended up going second. I roll up the Booty rolls for the Irmandinhos, my left-flank irmandinho got a light flamethrower, and the right-flank irmandinho got a DA CCW.

Game highlights include:

 - My reactive turn on Turn 1 going surprisingly well for what it's worth. The Vystrel was a right pain, dropping a Shang-ji only for him to be removed from a poorly-trained medical roll. The Konduktor with Flammenspeer managed to kill off the Rui-shi remote with said Flammenspeer.

 - In my Active Turn 1, a Hundun Ambush Unit would absolutely do everything in the job-title and ambush my assault team as the moved in through a gap in the terrain, eventually being the cause of death for both of my Veteran Kazaks and a the Dynamo.

- In my active turn 1 as well, my Irmandinho would advance forward and sacrifice herself on the left flank and melt the fireteam hunkering down behind the hangar.

- Turn 2 saw a Dao Fai reveal and die off to a Barsuk w/ flamethrower after killing off my last Irmandinho

The game was fun to play, with tough plays on both sides, where clearly the dice were favoring one of us. Dead2fa11 was a great opponent to play against, and it was another reminder to finish my moves ensuring units actually end of with the proper Line if Sight set up.

Im actually hoping we get a rematch later on, as we're both attending a different ITS event later this month.

Managed to pull my first ITS victory here, going 10 to 2 and 180 Victory Points remaining vs 20.

Game 2: Ariadna (TAK) v O-12 (Torchlight Brigade)

Played on: Table 5

My opponent's name ITS name was Sir Nichols. Before the game even started, his army looked great, using very clean conversions and proxies that still fit the theme of his Torchlight Brigade. Mainly, this would be the Vidocq having a Mandalorian helmet headswap, the baggage bots being star wars jet bikes, and his speedballs were little Voltorbs. This he had on hand that weren't involved were a converted Dragoes to be simliar to an imperial AT-ST, and a tech-bee with a stormtrooper head-swap.

This game went a very specific way (not in.my favor), and I'm thinking it's partially because of my own poor decision of deployment zone. I did the usual lazy choice of deploying on the side I'm standing on, which had the lower buildings and more open lanes of approach. What's worse about this is that it's my own fault cause Connor and I set the table up and me (being a buffoon) didn't balance the height of the buildings across the table.

I only have 2 game highlights from my perspective:

 - Turn 1 saw me take out a Jamie Arantes in ARO with the Vet Kazak HMG while going NWI in the meantime. after she landed and killed off my Irmandinho on the right flank; because of the bonus Firefight rule for Designated Landing Area.

- Turn 3 saw my Barsuk get up close enough to end his final move in ZoC of the Torchlight HVT, stopping us both from grabbing the Secure HVT classified.

Sir Nichols was a fantastic opponent who really showed one of the strengths of the Torchlight roster. A Vidocq FTO in a Silverstar fireteam really pinned me down to the point I could not do anything useful without running out and being smacked by a MULTI Sniper.

After it was determined that he took first in the tournament, I'm just happy I was able to deny him Secure HVT, although my final roster sat on a single Veteran Kazak, Strelok, Wardriver, and a Konduktor.

This time was my first ITS loss, going 0 to 9, and 80 Victory Points to 246.

Game 3: Ariadna (TAK) v White Company (Tin-Tin)

Played On: Table 6

The game started off with banter and I could tell this would be a fun game. Ric was spectating on and off on the bye-player for the round. We played on a table Connor and I set up and dubbed “the floor is lava,” which used a full tables worth of Warsenal Comanche terrain. Plenty of platforms, bridges, buildings, etc.

I lost the third LT roll-off of the day, going second again but deploying second as well, so that's fine.

Game Highlights include:

 - Turn 1 here, just like in game 1, was spend trying to dislodge the Vystrel, who beat a Nisse sniper, Fusilier with Missile launcher (who killed Voronin with his blast models shot), and a Kunai Solutions Ninja (i rolled a 1 and a 2 to hit needing 3's, he needed something like 9s). John Hawkwood eventually dropped it.

- I started my active turn 1 active being started in Loss of LT. Poor spacing on my part, whoops.

- John Hawkwood and my AP HMG Vet Kazak would spend order after order after order shooting each other, only to have literally nothing happen. Until the Vet Kazak eventually got him.

- The Vet Kazak with AP HMG would eventually kill Tao-Wu thinking he's a fusilier.

- There was a mistake on my part on turn 2. I mistakenly Forgot to remove the camo token from my Barsuk after he got revealed. This would eventually lead Tin-Tin to drop a tiger solder up on the landing platform that my Strelok and Vet Kazaks are on instead of closer to my back-line. It would've mattered more if he made the combat-jump roll, but he failed.

- An Irmandinho, while trying to fix the unconscious Vystrel, oopsie-d and unplugged a cable that shouldn't have been unplugged. Oops.

Out of all 3 games, this was by far my favorite game. Tin-Tin and I rolled with the punches, failed dice rolls, critical moments, and by far the banter made the game quite enjoyable. I don't know if he's coming to the next ITS this month, but I would for sure enjoy a rematch someday.

I won this game 10 to 1 with 173 victory points left. I did not take a physical note for how many Tin-Tin had left over.

### ### ### Wrap-Up ### ### ###

And the end of the day, big shoutout to the organizing WarCor I Am Ahab for setting everything up for today. At the end of the day, the top 3 placements were:

1st Place: Sir Nichols (O-12/Torchlight Brigade)

2nd Place: Lyons (JSA/Oban)

3rd Place: Uberbranchez (Ariadna/TAK)

The fact i came in 3rd was an oddity to me at my first ITS. A true shock cause I see myself as a middling-player at best. At the prize table, I grabbed up the only model I didn't already own, that being the new beasthunter. The rest of the placings can be seen here.

It was a phenomenal time playing against the 3 players i encountered today. My local Infinity “meta” is small, about a half-dozen semi-consistent players, which is down from a little over a dozen during the last league we had running about a year and a half ago.

### ### ### Closing Thoughts ### ### ###

I definitely didn't leave the tournament downtrodden, and am looking forward to another ITS nearby me later on this month! I do have more pictures, such as post-deployment photos from every game, but I dont want to make this blog post any longer.

There'll be a wrap-up on that later on after it's concluded. But for now, I'm back to writing up another 3 “lore” bat-reps, and possibly more when I inevitably play a few other games prior to the next ITS later this month.

I SWEAR Operation Bone-Rustler Part 4 is in progress. It'll be done soon enough.
